Job description

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Philosophy beginning in the fall of 2018. This position is a full time, one year term appointment with a 4/4 teaching load. The department’s teaching is committed to sustaining and developing the Catholic and Lasallian intellectual tradition; thus the department has a special interest in candidates who are conversant with perennial/Catholic Philosophy and have a strong general background in the history of Western philosophy.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

Important qualities in the successful candidate include interpersonal skills, collegiality, and a focus on individual student learning. We seek individuals with demonstrated excellence in learning and teaching and the virtues of collegiality. The successful candidate will have experience and/or ability to teach general education courses in philosophy of the human person and applied ethics that satisfy the university's moral traditions requirement. AOS and AOC are open, but AOS in Medieval Philosophy/AOC in Applied Ethics strongly encouraged to apply.

Education and Experience:

PhD in philosophy preferred, ABD considered. Preference to candidates with demonstrated excellence in learning and teaching. Candidate should understand the relationship between faith and reason and be able to articulate the role philosophy plays in the education of Roman Catholic seminarians.
