Job description |
LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY, Los Angeles, California. Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track, beginning Fall 2019. 2-2-2-3 course load over 4 semesters. Undergraduate and M.A.-level teaching. AOS: High Medieval Philosophy. AOC: Medieval Arabic Philosophy. Ph.D. prior to appointment strongly preferred. Salary competitive. As a pluralistic department that values and respects a range of philosophical approaches, we seek applicants who embrace this vision and who will contribute to the Catholic tradition of philosophical inquiry. Our department is at the center of a Catholic university whose mission is inspired and guided by the traditions of the Jesuits and the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary. The department is particularly interested in candidates with the ability and desire to contribute to one or more of LMU’s interdisciplinary programs, such as Asian and Asian American Studies, African American Studies, Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies, Jewish Studies, etc. University citizenship and engagement are expected of all faculty at LMU. Loyola Marymount, founded in 1911, is a comprehensive university in the mainstream of American Catholic higher education. Located on the west side of Los Angeles overlooking the Pacific, LMU is one of the nation’s 28 Jesuit colleges and universities and five Marymount institutions. It serves 5600 undergraduates and over 2500 graduate students in the Colleges/Schools of Liberal Arts, Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Communication and Fine Arts, Film and Television, Education, and Law. LMU seeks professionally outstanding applicants who value its mission and share its commitment to academic excellence, the education of the whole person, the service of faith and the promotion of justice. (Visit www.lmu.edu for more information.) Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Send complete dossier, including (1) a letter of application, which should address the candidate’s perspective on both philosophical pluralism and the Catholic intellectual tradition as they animate teaching, scholarship, and collegial life in a department, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) evidence of teaching effectiveness, (4) a writing sample not to exceed 25 pages, and (5) three confidential letters of recommendation to Dr. V. Martin Nemoianu, Search Committee Chair, and send it by email to [email protected]. Complete applications must be received by October 10, 2018. Pre-arranged interviews by video call will be conducted no later than November 8, 2018. |
