Department of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service is seeking candidates for the Danforth Chair of Philosophy, appointment to begin Fall of 2019, on a nine-month contract.  AOS and AOC: Open.  Rank: Advanced Associate or Full Professor, with tenure.

Duties of the Danforth Chair:

  • Scholarship: the Danforth Chair will be a highly productive scholar, enhancing the department’s standing in the profession.
  • Teaching (primarily graduate): Normally, the Danforth chair will teach at least one graduate seminar per year.  The standard teaching load in the philosophy department is two courses per semester, but course reductions may be negotiated in light of other commitments.
  • Graduate mentoring: direction of PhD dissertations and MA theses, and service on some dissertation and thesis committees directed by others.
  • Participation in usual department, college, and university service.

Requirements: Applicants must hold a PhD degree or an equivalent in philosophy, possess a strong record of peer-reviewed scholarship, and show strong evidence of an ongoing research agenda.
