Job description

The Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor from September 2019. The successful candidate will contribute to the intellectual life of the School through conducting and publishing outstanding quality research, engaging in high quality teaching as instructed by the Head of Department, and participating in the School and wider Department activities.

Candidates must have expertise and research interests in Philosophy. Area of research specialisation is open, except that candidates must be willing and able to make a research-led contribution to the teaching of Philosophy courses related to public policy in the MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy and the BSc in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Philosophy and public policy need not, however, be the main focus of one’s research, and teaching obligations will not necessarily be exclusively focussed in this area.

You will have a track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications and proven ability or potential to publish in top journals or with leading book publishers in Philosophy. You will also have a clear, well developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications. You will have, or be near completion of, a PhD in Philosophy or related field by the post start date. In addition, you will have a proven commitment to excellent teaching and to fostering a positive learning environment for students, as evidenced by feedback from students and colleagues regarding teaching quality.

The other criteria that will be used when shortlisting for this post can be found on the person specification for this post, which is attached to this vacancy on the LSE’s online recruitment system.

In addition to a competitive salary of no less than £54,984 GBP per annum (pay award pending), the benefits that come with this job include an occupational pension scheme, a research incentive scheme with personal reward options, generous research leave (sabbatical) entitlement, a collegial faculty environment and excellent support, training and development opportunities.

Applications for this post will open starting on 17 September, after which point you should apply online via www.lse.ac.uk/LSEJobs.

For further information about the post, please see the how to apply document, job description and the person specification, which will be available via the above website, from the 17th of September.
