Job description

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Navarra seeks to fill a one year full-time, Assistant Professor position in Philosophy, to begin September 2019. Depending on performance and mutual interests, the contract may be extended to a second year. Advanced candidates may eventually apply for tenure.

AOS: Metaphysics, or Modern Philosophy or Medieval Philosophy
AOC: Philosophical Anthropology/Philosophy of the Human Person and Ethics

The candidate will work in the Department of Philosophy, a dynamic unit of 26 professors responsible for the Degree, Master and PhD Program in Philosophy. With 11 research projects and a philosophy journal, the department has a strong reputation. The QS World University Ranking by Subject 2018 places its research among the top 50 worldwide.

Candidates will have a PhD in Philosophy by the date of the commencement of the position. They should specialize in either Metaphysics, or Modern or Medieval philosophy. Part of the candidate's teaching will be on Core Curriculum subjects, and especially, Philosophical Anthropology/Philosophy of the Human Person and Ethics. Any previous experience in the teaching of Core Curriculum courses and knowledge of its principles (www.unav.edu/en/web/core-curriculum/what-is-it/principles) will be very positively considered. The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of Christianity and religion, and value the crucial link between philosophical theories and people’s lives.

The candidate will teach to both Spanish and international students in English, although the School of Humanities will value the candidate’s ability to also teach in Spanish. Duties include teaching 2 or 3 courses per semester and assisting with program development.

Demonstrated research excellence or promise of research in his/her AOS is expected. The School of Humanities will take into consideration the successful candidate's ability to lead research or academic projects in his or her unit, to be genuinely committed to students and show a collaborative spirit with colleagues and administrative staff. Persons with administrative experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
