Job description |
The School of Professional Studies (SPS) at Columbia University invites applications for full-time positions at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline or Senior Lecturer in Discipline to teach in the MS Program in Bioethics. This position will begin on January 1, 2019 or July 1, 2019. This is a full-time appointment with multi-year renewal contingent on successful review. The program seeks an individual with a vibrant portfolio of academic study, experience and publications in bioethics, particularly law and bioethics, applied to health policy and clinical ethics. Teaching 3 bioethics courses per semester and advising in the MS Program and related programming areas is expected, in addition to the following: active participation in curriculum and program development and evaluation; faculty recruitment and evaluation; and participation in the development and execution of strategies to students as they transition from prospect to alum; academic and career advising to support the academic needs and professional aspirations of the MS students. The successful candidate will be capable of contributing to the program's academic mission, and demonstrate the potential for vision and direction that will be required for all aspects of the position. The successful candidate will have a terminal degree (MD, PhD, or JD) in a relevant field along with a minimum of five years of related experience. Candidates must have a firm footing in the profession of bioethics and an extensive network of professional connections. The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the graduate level and show strong potential for productive research and scholarly activities. Candidates at the rank of Senior Lecturer in Discipline are expected to have substantial experience and accomplishments, and a superlative record of teaching as a lecturer, and documented evidence of pedagogical excellence in carrying out administrative or other department responsibilities. Candidates at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline are expected to have teaching experience, documented evidence of pedagogical excellence, and evidence of professional growth and activity in the given field.
