Job description

The Department of Arts, Languages, & Philosophy at Missouri University of Science and Technology invites applications for a tenure-track position in philosophy at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in August 2019. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate-level philosophy courses, contribute to strengthening our department's philosophy program, maintain an active research program, and fully engage in the life of our diverse, multidisciplinary department. The typical teaching load will be three three-credit courses per semester, some of which may be delivered online. Candidates should have an area of specialization in applied ethics: the department is open to approaches to these topics from diverse perspectives and traditions. Candidates should be competent to teach a variety of courses in this area, and the department has specific teaching needs in business ethics, engineering ethics, bioethics, social ethics, and environmental ethics. Candidates should be willing to engage actively with S&T’s new Center for Science, Technology, and Society.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum requirements for this position include a Ph.D. in philosophy, a record of scholarly activity, evidence of successful college-level teaching, and experience integrating current technologies into courses.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include a record of excellence in college-level teaching.
