Based at CRASSH and in collaboration with the Faculties of History and POLIS
Applications are invited for 6 postdoctoral research associates to work on Conspiracy and Democracy: History, Political Theory and Internet Research, the Leverhulme-funded interdisciplinary, collaborative project led by Professor Sir Richard Evans (History), Dr David Runciman (Politics) and Professor John Naughton (CRASSH); and based at the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH), starting 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2017.
The project has three interrelated areas:
History
1. Conspiracy Theories in 19th-Century Europe
2. Cultural Transfer and Comparison: Europe and America
3. Anti-Semitic Conspiracy Theories in the Contemporary World
Political Theory
4. Rational Choice and Democratic Conspiracies
5. Ideals of Transparency and Suspicion of Democracy
The Internet
6. The impact of global networking on the nature, dissemination and impact of conspiracy theories.
Applicants should propose a project broadly based on one or more of the strands of the project. It is anticipated that one post will be awarded in each of the six areas. As well as completing their proposed research project, fellows will be expected to help develop, organize and contribute to further collaborative and interdisciplinary research on the themes of the project; help develop, organize and participate in the group's activities - seminars, reading groups, conferences; and help select, invite and organize the programme of visiting scholars.
Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field by the start of their employment. Those interested are strongly encouraged to read the Project Description available on the CRASSH website for details of the project and how to apply. Interviews will be held on 21 and 22 November 2012.
