Job description |
The Philosophy Department at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of Philosophy, tenure-track, beginning August 15, 2019. The department seeks a candidate specializing in medieval philosophy. Candidates must be prepared to teach upper-level courses (typically 3 to 4 courses per year of a 3-3 yearly academic load) that will satisfy our core curriculum requirements in the Faith and Reason area or Philosophical Anthropology area of the SJU General Education Program. In addition, candidates must also be prepared to teach our common core course PHL 154 Moral Foundations. There are opportunities for participating in honors and service-learning programs, developing and teaching general education ethics-intensive courses, developing and teaching upper-level major courses in medieval philosophy, and contributing to an interdisciplinary Medieval, Renaissance, and Reformation Studies minor. It is essential that the candidate demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching, and the ability to contribute to the mission of a Jesuit Catholic University in a deliberately diverse department. Women and members of underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Strong evidence of Ph.D. completion by August 15, 2019 is also required. The salary is competitive. For full consideration, on-line applications should be completed by November 26, 2018. See the Department’s website for further information: http://www.sju.edu/int/academics/cas/philosophy/ Saint Joseph’s University is a private, Catholic, and Jesuit institution and expects members of its community to be knowledgeable about its mission and to make a positive contribution to that mission.
