Recruitment Period Open November 1st, 2018 through December 3rd, 2018 Description The University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a full-time, tenured faculty position in the area of Diversity and Democracy. The three areas of focal interest for this position are research and teaching expertise in one or some combination of the following areas: 1) diversity and identity; 2) diversity, civil society and political action; or 3) legal or philosophical frameworks for diverse democracies. The minimum qualification to be considered an applicant for the position is a PhD or equivalent international degree. Special consideration will be given to candidates who work in one or more of the following areas: 1) the content and contestation of group identities; 2) the civic and political engagement of diverse populations within local, national, and transnational contexts; or 3) the normative or legal implications of racial and ethnic diversity within democratic societies. The anticipated starting date is July 1, 2019. The position is affiliated with the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society (HIFIS). The search will be conducted under the auspices of the HIFIS Diversity and Democracy cluster and with the participation of faculty from the Department of Political Science, Department of Sociology, and School of Law (including the Jurisprudence and Social Policy Program). We are interested in candidates who have demonstrated excellence in research, teaching and service, and a commitment to building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Candidates may be appointed at the tenured level (up to the rank of Full Professor), depending upon their qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will hold a faculty appointment in a department to be determined by the candidate's preferences, disciplinary training, and departmental fit.
