Job description

Smith College invites applications for five non-tenure track, three-year, non-renewable positions at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2019. We seek candidates in the following areas:  American Studies; Astronomy/Physics; Biological Sciences/Biochemistry/Neuroscience; Environmental Science & Policy; Exercise & Sport Studies; French Studies/Comparative Literature; German Studies; Government/Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies; History; Philosophy; Religion; Statistical & Data Sciences; and Study of Women & Gender.

Candidates should have a strong foundation in their discipline and experience teaching writing within the discipline and across an array of the platforms that figure in contemporary intellectual discourse. Teaching responsibilities for this position are five courses per year: a writing-intensive first-year seminar and four other writing-attentive courses with a public writing component in the home department; at least two of these courses will be team taught. Which courses the candidate teaches will depend on their field of specialization and the needs of the home department. A Ph.D. is expected by the time of appointment. Students cross-enroll and faculty cross-teach across the Five Colleges.
