St Anne’s College, Oxford and the Faculty of Philosophy are seeking to recruit an Associate Professor of the Philosophy of Mind, with a desirable sub-specialism in the Philosophy of Cognitive Science, or the Philosophy of Psychiatry. This is a joint appointment and the person appointed to the Associate Professorship will also be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship at St Anne’s College, and will undertake teaching, research and administration for both the College and the Faculty. Selection criteria: The successful candidate will have a doctorate in Philosophy or a closely related field (or a completed doctoral dissertation submitted for examination by the advertised closing date for this position); evidence of the ability to produce leading research in the Philosophy of Mind, a research record of international standing appropriate to the candidate’s career stage, and an exciting and viable plan for future research; experience of and ability to teach philosophy at undergraduate and graduate levels; the commitment to undertake administrative duties and to participate in the governance and intellectual life of the College; excellent interpersonal skills. For the full list of criteria see the further particulars. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford. For the Faculty, the postholder will undertake research; deliver lectures and classes; supervise graduate students; participate in graduate admissions exercises; act as an examiner; and contribute to Faculty administration and other Faculty initiatives. Salary and Benefits: The combined salary will be on Grade 10a (39S) of the University scale, currently £47,263 to £63,463 per annum. The precise salary will depend on qualifications and experience, and will be pensionable with USS. Associate Professors who are awarded the title of full professor may receive from the University an additional salary payment of £2,754 per annum. The Fellow will be entitled to an office in College and membership of the College’s Senior Common Room and allowances for entertainment and research. A housing allowance of £9,655 will also be paid.
