Job description

The Faculty of Philosophy at Albert Ludwig University Freiburg invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (Juniorprofessur, W1) with AOS in Greek Philosophy to begin 1 April 2013. The appointment will be temporary (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit) for an initial 4-year period and can be extended for another 2 years upon positive evaluation.

The successful candidate will work in the AOS with an emphasis on ancient and late-ancient Greek philosophy. Extensive expertise in the field of the Greek commentators on Aristotle will be an asset. Teaching competency in English, engagement in international collaborations, and readiness to contribute to the Center for Medieval Studies as well as to cooperate with the Research Group "Grammar - Logic - Rhetoric. Conceptions of Language at the Crossroads of Scientific Disciplines and Social Groups in Arabic-Islamic Culture (800-1100)" are required.

In addition to conformity with administrative requirements, outstanding academic skills, as demonstrated e.g. by an excellent PhD degree, are expected.  Post-doctoral research activities and publications will be an asset. The usual non-teaching duties, such as service to the university and department, are required.

The position involves the independent performance of teaching responsibilites.

If the candidate was employed at a German university (akademischer Mitarbeiter) before or after promotion to PhD, the time spanning their doctoral work and employment cannot exceed a total of 6 years.
