Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a one-year full-time term teaching faculty position at the rank of Lecturer beginning Sept. 1, 2019 and concluding August 31, 2020. Area of specialization (AOS): open.  Area of competence (AOC): metaphysics and epistemology.  The successful candidate will teach 8 courses over three terms (fall, spring, summer), including: a first-year course “Knowledge and Reality,” a second-year core course in metaphysics, and a second-year core course in epistemology.  The ideal candidate will have a completed PhD, and must have evidence of exemplary teaching ability in these areas. Ability to teach a first-year course in introductory logic is desirable. As a member of the SFU Faculty Association (SFUFA) and the Department of Philosophy team of faculty, the Lecturer may also be expected to participate in the life of the unit.

Applicants should submit: a cover letter, c.v., writing sample, and teaching portfolio.  The teaching portfolio should include evidence of exemplary teaching ability, including: sample syllabi, summary of quantitative scores for all courses taught (if available), full set of unedited teaching evaluations for at least two courses, and any other information the applicant believes to be relevant.  Applicants must indicate whether they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents in the cover letter.  Applicants should also arrange for a minimum of three confidential letters to be sent directly to the search committee.
