Research Fellow in Theoretical Philosophy (EXPIRED)

Duties and responsibilities  

Conducting research in philosophy at the University of Tartu ASTRA Project PER ASPERA (European Union, European Regional Development Fund) under the supervision of Professor Juhani Yli-Vakkuri. The research topic should belong to at least one of the following areas of philosophy: philosophy of language, philosophical logic, philosophy of mind, philosophy of mathematics, metaphysics, and epistemology. During the period of contract, a research fellow must carry out internationally recognised research at least in the volume equivalent to that of two thirds of a doctoral thesis. Participation in teaching. Supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s theses. Professional development.  

Required qualifications  

PhD degree or an equivalent qualification. The successful applicant must hold the degree by the time of application.  

Required experience  

Ability to participate in organising research, development and creative activities in the specialisation. Internationally recognised professional research, the volume of which so far is equivalent to that of at least one doctoral thesis.   

Required language skills  

English.

Starting on 01.09.2019, temporary contract to 28.02.2021

Salary  1660 EUR per month gross

  Additional info  

In addition to the standard application documents, the following materials are required: 

(i) a short (1-2 pages) description of research plans, 
(ii) one or two writing samples totalling no more than 20,000 words or, if they total more than 20,000 words, with a selection of text totalling no more than 20,000 words highlighted.
