Open rank tenured/tenure-track position in 20th-century French philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy, KU Leuven (EXPIRED)

The Institute of Philosophy invites applications for a full-time tenured/tenure-track position at the Husserl Archives: Centre for Phenomenology and Continental Philosophy, KU Leuven.

The Institute of Philosophy offers bachelor, master and advanced master programs both in Dutch and in English. More than 100 PhD students from all over the world are enrolled in its PhD program. The Faculty has an elaborate national and international network and enjoys an excellent library.

We are looking for candidates who have a thorough knowledge of the French cultural and scholarly tradition and are able to critically engage with phenomenology and other philosophical approaches represented at the Institute of Philosophy. Areas of Specialization: French philosophy from Bergson to Deleuze, with advanced competency in Post-structuralism and French Phenomenology

Starting date: preferably by 1 February 2020.

Duties Research

The successful candidate is required to perform the following tasks:

• Produce high-quality and high-impact publications;
• Contribute substantially to the research community at the Husserl Archives: Centre for Phenomenology and Continental Philosophy, e.g., by participating in and organizing research and/or didactic events;
• Prepare competitive applications for relevant external funding.

Education The successful candidate is required to teach small seminars as well as large lecture courses, both at the Institute of Philosophy and other KU Leuven faculties, and supervise theses in the relevant fields, in English and, within 5 years, in Dutch. Profile

Successful candidates are expected:

• To hold a PhD in philosophy;
• To have demonstrated the capacity to carry outhigh-level research in one or more of the areas of specialization mentioned above;
• To be able to teach on a wide range of philosophical topics at undergraduate and graduate level;
• To be fluent in French and English (already existing skills in Dutch are a plus).

The official administrative language used at KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not speak Dutch (or do not speak it well) at the start of employment, KU Leuven will provide language training to enable you to take part in administrative meetings. Before teaching courses in Dutch or English, you will be given the opportunity to learn Dutch, respectively English, to the required standard.

To facilitate scientific onboarding and accelerate research in the first phase a starting grant of 100.000 euro is offered to new professors without substantial other funding, appointed for at least 50%.
