Job description |
This is a short-term job opportunity (requiring a PhD) in just war theory and in global justice. We are looking for a relief teacher for not quite four months and would pay a lump sum of 130,000 HKD (that is around 14,800 Euro or 16,600 US Dollar; given that this is below a certain threshold, you will be unlikely to have to pay taxes here); there is room for negotiation, though. Housing is not provided. The relief teacher would have to teach two courses: a course in our taught postgraduate program “Master in International and Public Affairs” and an undergraduate Common Core course. The undergraduate course is entitled “Thinking about Global Ethics” and covers topics like universalism vs. relativism, human rights, poverty relief, cosmopolitanism, global economic justice, immigration, and global environmental challenges. The postgraduate course entitled “War and Armed Conflicts: The Philosophical Issues” will be entirely about just war theory. The syllabi for the two courses will be provided, and the relief teacher can somewhat adapt them to his/her preferences. There will be 12 sessions for each course (one session per week), the graduate course is 3 hours, the undergraduate course not quite 2 hours per session. The relief teacher will normally not have to teach tutorials. (There are no tutorials for the graduate course anyway, and the tutorials for the undergraduate course will be taught by a teaching assistant. This only changes if the number of participants drops below a certain threshold. This is virtually impossible for the course in question and has in fact never happened.) The two courses will be on the same day (Wednesday), starting in the late afternoon. |
