Job description |
AOS: History of Philosophy AOC: Open Assistant Professor of Philosophy, first or second term. Position will begin July 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. Successful candidates will be appointed either as assistant professor, or as a Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellow with an initial two-year faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor. This initial period is intended to serve in lieu of a postdoctoral appointment for the same period, during which Provost’s Fellows will teach one class per year. Instructors will ordinarily be promoted to Assistant Professor at the end of their initial term. Assistant Professors have a minimum teaching load of four courses/year over three quarters, graduate and undergraduate levels, and usual dissertation, committee, and advising responsibilities. A goal of the search is to increase the diversity of the faculty in the Department, and we therefore welcome applicants who come from groups that are historically underrepresented in the disciplines noted above, such as women, black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian or Alaskan Native. Qualifications The department invites applications from candidates specializing in any area in the History of Philosophy. We seek a colleague with an ambitious research agenda yielding active and innovative scholarship, who will contribute to the scholarly community of the department and university, and who has the ability or potential to be an excellent teacher in the university’s core curriculum, in introductory to advanced undergraduate courses in Philosophy, and in graduate courses related to their area of expertise. All requirements for the doctoral degree in Philosophy or related field must be completed by the start of the appointment. Application Instructions No applications or dossier materials will be accepted after October 15, 2019. Required elements of the dossier are: cover letter, CV, dissertation abstract, research statement, writing sample, teaching statement, teaching evaluations, at least three syllabi, and three letters of reference. Optional elements are an additional writing sample and additional letters of reference. All items must be submitted via the University’s Academic Recruitment site (Interfolio): http://apply.interfolio.com/67364. Questions may be sent to [email protected] with the subject heading JUNIOR SEARCH. Position contingent upon budgetary approval.
