Job description |
The Department of Philosophy, Linguistics and Theory of Science (FLoV) at the University of Gothenburg is looking to hire a fully salaried PhD student attached to the Lund Gothenburg Responsibility Project (LGRP). LGRP focuses on moral responsibility and free will within action theory, normative ethics, metaethics, and legal philosophy. It is co-located at FLoV and at the Department of Philosophy at Lund University (a 2-hour train ride from Gothenburg), and directed by Professor Paul Russell, a leading figure in the field of free will and moral responsibility. Besides the faculty, postdocs and PhD students associated with the project in Gothenburg and Lund, the project regularly hosts leading visiting researchers in the field. Please see https://www.lgrp.lu.se/ for further information. Job assignments The successful candidate’s main responsibilities will be to write a doctoral dissertation on a philosophical topic related to free will, agency and/or moral and legal (individual or collective) responsibility, and to complete obligatory course work. He or she may also undertake a limited amount of teaching, administration or research not directly connected to her or his dissertation topic. The candidate will be based in Gothenburg and is expected to participate in LGRP’s activities in both Gothenburg and Lund, as well as other activities at the department (such as workshops and seminars). The working language at the department is English. Employment The PhD position is a fully salaried full-time position. This means that the successful candidate will get all the employment-based benefits provided by the Swedish social security system. These include, among other benefits, sickness benefits, a rehabilitation allowance and generous parental-leave insurance. The total period of employment for the PhD student is four years. If the PhD student does teaching or administrative work for the department during this period, then it is prolonged accordingly. The period of employment is also prolonged accordingly if the PhD student goes on parental leave or on sick leave. |
