The College of Arts & Sciences at Cornell University seeks to appoint a distinguished chair in the humanities with a specialization in the history of Islamic thought in the pre-modern period. Applicants should have a distinguished record of research and publication. The appointment will be made at the rank of tenured Professor in the department most suitable to the appointee. The chair holder will be expected to promote interaction among faculty and students across the disciplines who have interests in ancient and medieval philosophy, religions, and cultures associated in some way with Islamic cultures in the pre-modern period. The chair holder will teach a normal load for faculty in the humanities (two courses per semester), participate in the supervision of graduate students in relevant graduate fields, and share in departmental and collegiate administrative responsibilities. Salary and research support will be at a level appropriate to a distinguished professorial chair at Cornell. Cornell is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer and educator.
