Job description |
The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor of philosophy. AOS: normative ethics and/or applied ethics, AOC: biomedical ethics, environmental ethics, engineering ethics, business ethics, or information/data ethics. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in philosophy, upper-level applied ethics courses in one or more of the areas above, and other courses related to the candidate’s research expertise or the department’s needs. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to build connections across disciplines and across programs, as well as contribute to the efforts of the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values. The department is committed to the teacher-scholar model, and candidates should provide evidence in their teaching portfolio of both teaching excellence and self-reflective pedagogy. At least one reference letter should address the candidate’s teaching expertise. Candidates are also encouraged to provide evidence of how they address issues of diversity and inclusion as related to teaching philosophy. The teaching load is seven courses per year. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Philosophy by the time of appointment in August 2020.
