Job description |
Department of Public Policy Leadership. The Department of Public Policy Leadership at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to start in August 2020. The term of the position will be 2 semesters with the possibility of renewal. ABD or Ph.D. in Philosophy, Political Theory, or a related field is required. Preference will be given to those with teaching experience in Ethics, Political Philosophy, or Philosophy of Law. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester. Each term, the successful candidate will teach the following courses: PPL 212 - “Critical Thinking, Communication, and Public Policy” and PPL 300 – “Public Policy and Ethics”. They could also teach a further undergraduate course already in the curriculum or in their area of specialization. The Department of Public Policy Leadership provides a challenging undergraduate major that prepares high-performing students for positions of leadership in an increasingly complex world. It maintains small class sizes and seminar style teaching environments. The interdisciplinary curriculum for the major incorporates geography, political science, economics, philosophy, and public policy/administration. The program emphasizes in-depth understanding of policy issues, the global nature of responsible decision making, the ethical imperatives of leadership, critical thinking and communication skills, and the methodological skills necessary for careful policy analysis.
