Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at Carnegie Mellon University seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2020. AOS: Philosophy and Cognitive science (including both philosophy of cognitive science and/or philosophically informed cognitive science). We are particularly interested in candidates working at the interface of cognitive science and any of the department’s other current research areas, including applied ethics and linguistics. Carnegie Mellon has a strong history of interdisciplinary, collaborative research and appointments, and we expect that this position will have close connections (potentially including courtesy appointments) with the Department of Psychology, the Department of Social & Decision Sciences, and/or the Carnegie Mellon Neuroscience Institute, as appropriate. Successful applicants need not have a Ph.D. in philosophy, although candidates from other areas will be expected to communicate and interact with philosophical audiences. The Department encourages applications from individuals who can contribute to the diversity of our community intellectually, personally, or culturally. The standard teaching load is 3.5 courses per year (7 courses over four semesters), both undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as typical advising and other non-teaching responsibilities. Carnegie Mellon University is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the diversity of its community on a range of intellectual and cultural dimensions. Carnegie Mellon welcomes faculty applicants who will contribute to this diversity through their research, teaching and service, including women, members of minority groups, protected veterans, individuals with disabilities, and others who would contribute in different ways. CMU seeks to meet the needs of dual-career couples and is a member of the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC) that assists with dual-career searches. Applications must be submitted by November 1, 2019 for full consideration, and should include: a letter of intent; curriculum vitae; research statement; educational or teaching statement; writing sample; and 3-6 letters of reference. |
