Assistant Professor of Philosophy (tenure track)

The Department of Philosophy at Florida State University (FSU) invites applications for a position as an Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 7, 2020. Salary competitive.

The normal teaching load is four courses per year on a semester system. The Areas of Specialization and Competence for this position are open, but the successful candidate will have research interests that are relevant in some way to the emerging philosophical issues raised by the advent of 'big data', and will have the ability to collaborate with faculty in other disciplines whose work bears on these issues. Areas of specialization might include one or more of the following:

applied ethics, epistemology, ethics, logic, philosophy of cognitive science, philosophy of law, philosophy of science, philosophy of social science, philosophy of statistics, philosophy of technology, political philosophy

Duties include research, teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and service. The Department of Philosophy is an extremely active research department with a strong graduate program, so the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research and scholarship through high quality publications in top-tier venues. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in Philosophy (or equivalent terminal degree) by time of appointment; demonstrated potential in establishing a successful program of research and scholarship; demonstrated ability to teach and participate in our strong philosophy undergraduate, M.A., and Ph.D. programs.
