Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Mount Allison University invites applications for a tenure- track appointment in Philosophy. Candidates should possess or be near completion of a PhD in Philosophy and should also demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and a promising research profile.

The successful candidate will have a specialization in the Philosophy of Science, broadly construed. This specialization should inform the candidates’ approach to teaching and research. The department has teaching needs in environmental philosophy, logic, philosophy of mind, and modern philosophy, and so competence in any or all of these is a strong asset. Historically- informed approaches are especially desirable, in keeping with the department’s emphasis on the importance of the history of philosophy.

The appointment will commence July 1, 2020 subject to budgetary approval. Submissions are comprised of: (i) a letter of application which includes a brief statement of current research; (ii) a curriculum vitae; (iii) a teaching dossier which includes, but is not limited to, a brief statement of teaching philosophy and a summary of teaching experience; (iv) official or unofficial transcripts, or a list of graduate courses taken; and (v) a sample of writing. Long-listed candidates will be contacted subsequently to submit three letters of reference. Electronic applications are strongly encouraged and should be sent to [email protected]. Paper submissions should be sent to:
