Job description

The Department of Philosophy and the Parr Center for Ethics in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seek to appoint a non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant Professor to be the Director of the joint Department/Parr Center APA-award-winning Outreach Program. The position has a start date of July 1, 2020. The successful candidate will be expected to teach one undergraduate outreach-related class per semester and to oversee all aspects of the Outreach Program. These include securing graduate-student engagement with area schools, afterschool programs, retirement communities, and other community institutions and organizations; managing contacts with local schools and matching appropriate undergraduate student interns to classroom needs; working with high-school Ethics Bowl coaches to prepare their teams for competition; developing new internship opportunities for undergraduates; and energetically pursuing new Outreach Program ideas and funding sources. Welcome experience would include working to integrate philosophy and/or ethics into existing K-12 curricula, grant-writing, and experience with ethics-bowl programs. PhD in philosophy preferred; at least an M.A. in philosophy is required. AOS: Open. AOC: Open.
