This Adjunct Instructor position will teach courses on Philosophy and Christian Thought with the School of Liberal Arts in the College of Adult and Professional Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University regional education centers. The instructor will instruct adult students using curriculum established by the School of Liberal Arts focusing on the relationship of philosophy to Christian theological perspectives. The instructor will plan class activities, track student attendance, and grade student assignments in a timely manner. Most onsite classes are held one night per week for 5-6 weeks, 6-10 pm. Each course may include up to 25 students. Onsite adjunct instructors may also be asked to teach online.

Duties and Responsibilities

Meet with students at onsite locations for the full class time as assigned

  • Facilitate engaging individual and group instructional activities onsite
  • Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process.
  • Assist students in achieving completion of objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Utilize appropriate technology for instruction (e.g. Power-point, Blackboard, Internet Resources)
  • Enrich course instruction with expertise from their area of academic study
  • Incorporate Biblical principles into their content area
  • Communicate with all IWU constituents in a professional and academic manner
  • Respond to student emails during the week within 36 hours
  • Advise students in matters related to academics, attendance, and behaviors.
  • Grade student assignments by giving substantive feedback and critical evaluation within one week of the due date for the assignment.
  • Maintain and report student grades and attendance in accordance with university policies
  • Complete required faculty development sessions
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.
     

Qualifications

Education:

  • Ph.D in Philosophy/Theology OR
  • Ph.D in another area with 18 graduate hours in Philosophy/Theology OR
  • ABD with 18 graduate hours in Philosophy/Theology OR
  • Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Philosophy/Theology
  • Training in Wesleyan-Arminian theological perspectives preferred

Experience:

  • Full- or part-time teaching in higher education
  • Teaching adult learners
  • Full- or part-time ministry experience preferred
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred
  • Competence in MS Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint) and web based applications such as Blackboard.
