Job description

The School of Arts and Sciences at Southern New Hampshire University invites applications for the position of assistant professor of philosophy. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package in the Department of Humanities and Fine Arts. The starting date is September 1, 2013. A PhD in the relevant field is required at the time of hire.


The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to teach introductory level courses as part of the university’s general education program. The area of specialization is open, but a solid background in ethics is preferred. A strong record of success in teaching undergraduates is essential.


The teaching load is seven courses per academic year for faculty with an ongoing scholarly activity plan. Courses will include a mix of introductory surveys and upper-level offerings driven by the faculty member’s interests and expertise. Review of applications will begin November 30, 2012, and continue until the position is filled.


Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in the relevant field at the time of hire.
Strong record of success in teaching undergraduates.
Demonstrated aility to teach introductory level courses.


Preferred Qualifications:

Background in, and ability to teach, ethics.
