Job description

Temporary, part-time faculty in Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines: Africana Studies; Anthropology; Communication Studies; Criminal Justice; Economics; English; Film; Geography; Hispanic Studies (includes Mexican American Studies, Spanish and Teaching English as a Second Language); History; Journalism and Mass Communications; Modern Languages (Chinese, French, German and Japanese); Philosophy; Political Science and International Affairs; Social Science; Sociology; Women's Studies. Online teaching opportunities may be available in some of the above-mentioned disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications 
Master's degree or equivalent in a discipline appropriate to the one in which the candidate wishes to teach. Commitment to quality instruction at the college level is essential.

Preferred Qualifications 
Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the one in which the candidate wishes to teach. Past record of successful college-level teaching experience in the discipline of employment. For online teaching, one or more semesters' worth of online teaching experience. Experience using the Blackboard platform and with courses that have received Quality Matters approval is advantageous.

Salary and Benefits 
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, life, and dental insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed as 0.5FTE or above are entitled to and eligible for Dependent Tuition Grants. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

Applicants interested in teaching online should submit a syllabus and/or description of a sample course. Official transcripts will be required within 30 days of hire.

Additional Requirements 
Satisfactory completion of a background check, educational check, and authorization to work in the United States is required after a conditional offer of employment has been made. The successful candidate must submit original transcripts within one (1) month of hire.
