Department of Philosophy

Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania invites applications for possible temporary adjunct semester or one-year Instructor positions, which could start as early as August 2020 depending on demand, need, and funding. AOS and AOC are open. Successful candidates may be required to teach a maximum of four courses, limited to three preparations, though it is possible that course load will be less than four. The department principally needs candidates who are able to teach its 100-level Introductory courses and its 200-level courses in Contemporary Moral Problems or in one of its applied ethics offerings, such as Medical Ethics or Business Ethics.

Minimum required credential: A.B.D. in philosophy. Preferred credentials: Ph.D. in philosophy, prior college teaching experience, and demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations. Finalists for any positions must successfully complete an interview process as judged by the faculty. All finalists, prior to employment, must submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment and educational verification, Pennsylvania’s Child Abuse History Clearance, and a criminal background check.

Submit application, including cover letter, curriculum vitae, graduate transcripts (unofficial is acceptable) and a teaching statement to the university’s online application system (http://agency.governmentjobs.com/bloomuedu/default.cfm). Letters of recommendation will be solicited from applicants identified for interview. Applications are being accepted on an ongoing basis through April 30, 2023. Questions can be sent to Dr. Kurt Smith, Hiring Committee Chairperson, at [email protected] (please include Temp Pool in the subject line).
