The Department of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte seeks an outstanding senior scholar as Department Chair.  The area of teaching and research is open.  Candidates must have: 1) a doctoral degree in philosophy; 2) credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of full professor; 3) a strong record of publishing in philosophy; and 4) a commitment to promote diversity as a value in the department, college and university.   Administrative experience is preferred, and a record of success in securing extramural funding is highly desirable.

The Department offers a major and minor, a Graduate Certificate in Applied Ethics, and an M.A. in Ethics and Applied Philosophy.  Our department has connections to other units across the university, both at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and we are closely affiliated with UNC Charlotte's Center for Professional and Applied Ethics, with which the Chair will be expected to collaborate regularly for campus events and initiatives. The Department is committed to an intertraditional approach to philosophy, growth in the major and graduate programs, and strong practical and engaged research.  The ideal Chair will embrace and augment those commitments. (For more information on the Department, see our website: http://philosophy.uncc.edu.)
