Research Fellow at the Future of Humanity Institute (EXPIRED)

FHI is a research centre aiming to give serious best answers to some of the biggest decision-relevant questions facing humanity, even when large amounts of uncertainty remain. To address this, we pull on the tools developed by several different disciplines.

We have found that some of the best general toolkits come from Philosophy, as well as physics, mathematics, and economics. We are excited to consider applications from strong philosophers with an interest in applying their thinking to broader questions with relevance for our long-term future.

We currently have open research positions at several levels of seniority, and will make up to 9 appointments. Relevant areas include: Macrostrategy, Technical AI safety, Governance of AI, Biosecurity, AI ethics and philosophy of mind, Transparency and surveillance, Philosophical foundations, Grand futures, Cooperative principles and institutions, AI ethics, AI capabilities, and Nanotechnology. 

We are interested in applicants with a strong foundation in Philosophy and an interest in broader questions, to help shed light on crucial considerations that might reshape our understanding of the future or of how to evaluate different possible outcomes.
