Job description

Newman Theological College in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada invites applications for a full-time continuing faculty member to teach in the College’s new BA program in Catholic Studies. This is a “Great Books” program in which many of the courses require Professors to teach from primary sources in dynamic seminars using Socratic pedagogy. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in philosophy with specialization related to St. Thomas Aquinas or Thomistic philosophy. A demonstrated competence in the major areas of the history of philosophy is necessary. The successful candidate will be comfortable with teaching a broad range of undergraduate courses in keeping with the aims and methods of the program. The teaching load is 3/2.


Applicants should demonstrate a potential for successful academic research and peer reviewed publication as well as having a passion for disseminating his or her research to the wider public.


Given the nature of this program applicants should be practicing Catholics and demonstrate an enthusiastic commitment to the College’s mission and its role as an institution within the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton, Canada, working in partnership with St. Joseph Seminary.
