About the Department:

The Department of Philosophy at UTEP has had a long tradition of supporting work in Ethics, Political Philosophy, and Latin American Philosophy. The department seeks to deepen and expand the work of its graduate students in these areas. The department sustains an active research faculty. UTEP also has a successful Chicano Studies Program and the successful candidate should indicate their willingness and/or capacity to productively cooperate and collaborate with that academic unit and other relevant academic units on campus. Since 2007, the Department of Philosophy has supported an MA in Philosophy, which has successfully placed several graduates in high-level PhD programs.

Job Description:

The Department of Philosophy of the University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for the position of a distinguished tenured scholar at the rank of Professor or an advanced Associate Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to serve as Chairperson of the department. The department chair is responsible for promoting a culture of high quality, interdisciplinary education and research in the department while promoting innovation and departmental cohesion. The chair is the chief administrative and financial officer of the department, and she/he will lead the department in promoting and supporting the mission of the University of Texas at El Paso and the College of Liberal Arts.

Requirements:

A PhD in Philosophy with an area of specialization in at least one of the following: Political Philosophy (with a focus in Philosophy of Race or Latin American Philosophy strongly preferred); Philosophy of Race (broadly construed to include, among others, work on philosophy of race in metaphysics, epistemology or philosophy of language );  Latin American  Philosophy. Candidates should demonstrate an internationally recognized record of scholarly achievement in these areas with the promise of continued productivity suitable to a Research One University.

Excellence in and commitment to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is required.
