We are seeking to appoint a Researcher in Ethics and Community Engagement to work at the Oxford University Tropical Medicine Group at the KEMRI-Wellcome Unit in Kilifi, Kenya (a minimum of 6 months p.a.) and a total of about 2 months at the Wellcome Trust Major Overseas Programmes (MOPs) in Malawi, Kenya, South Africa, Thailand, and Vietnam and the Ethox Centre at the University of Oxford.

You will develop and carry out a programme of research on community engagement and ethics and facilitate the strategic development of community engagement activities at the KEMRI-Wellcome Unit and facilitate the sharing of expertise in community engagement between all five MoPs, building effective collaborative partnerships with researchers based in all of them and with the Ethox Centre in Oxford. You will contribute to teaching and capacity-building activities, publish papers and contribute to the Global Health Bioethics Network's websites.  You will also be required to seek research funding to support the further development all the partners.

You will have a doctorate in philosophy, bioethics, social science or other relevant subject. You will also have experience of carrying out qualitative research on the ethics of community engagement in the context of international collaborative scientific research, and of carrying out community engagement activities in a low-income setting. You will have a significant track record of research and publishing on community engagement. Evidence of commitment to collaborative research and writing together with others, along with excellent teamwork skills are also essential.

The post is offered full-time for 3 years; the postholder will be part of the Ethox Centre but will be primarily based at the KEMRI-Wellcome Unit in Kilifi.
