Job description

Position is subject to final budgetary approval. Teaching responsibilities include both graduate and undergraduate courses; normally 5 classes per academic year, with release time available for administrative or higher than normal service or mentoring responsibilities. Summer and winter teaching may be undertaken for additional pay. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research and publication program and to participate in faculty self-governance.

Situated in Kentucky’s largest and most diverse city, UofL is both a Carnegie Doctoral-High (“Research 1”) University, and a Carnegie Community Engaged University. The Cardinal Anti-Racism Agenda frames the University’s dedication to breaking down racial disparities and injustice, as does the Department’s longstanding commitment to the proposition that Black Lives Matter. UofL is home to one of the oldest and largest Pan African Studies departments in the country, and the Philosophy Department’s courses in African Philosophy and African American Philosophy are cross-listed in that department. Thus, candidates should have demonstrated experience working with diverse students, faculty, staff, and community members, and a commitment to continue such engagement in ways that continually build inclusion and belonging for all. We especially encourage women, minorities, and persons with disabilities to apply.

All requirements for the Ph.D. in philosophy must be completed by June 30, 2021.

Review of applications will begin on February 22nd, 2021.

Short-listed candidates will be contacted in March for the purpose of setting up video-conference interviews. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Department may be required to conduct the search remotely; but in any case, candidates who are not comfortable traveling during the pandemic may choose to go through the process remotely, and will be considered without prejudice either way.

The University of Louisville is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity, Americans with Disabilities Employer, committed to diversity; and in that spirit, we seek applications from a broad variety of candidates.
