The Interdisciplinary Nursing Ethics Faculty Member will serve in the Duquesne University School of Nursing (SON). He or she will advance the school's mission and reputation in nursing ethics, including the Catholic perspective, in collaboration with and having a joint appointment in the Center for Healthcare Ethics. The Interdisciplinary Nursing Ethics Faculty Member will oversee the development and implementation of the online Interdisciplinary Nursing Ethics certificate and major. 

Candidate Qualifications 
The successful candidate will have a Phd in philosophy and expertise in bioethics or medical ethics. The following qualifications and expertise are desirable:

  • Preferably five years of academic experience
  • Strong evidence of superior online course development /teaching
  • Excellent writing and communication skills for teaching and publications
  • Experience in teaching nursing ethics

Duties:

  • Partner with the Center for Healthcare Ethics as a joint appointment faculty.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Healthcare Ethics and SON to develop an Interdisciplinary major/certificate in Nursing Ethics focused on ethical issues for the nurse administrator, nurse educator, nurse researcher, professional staff nurse, and advanced practice nurse.
  • Examine all nursing curricula and make recommendations for strengthening ethical content.
  • Develop online courses for the interdisciplinary nursing ethics major/certificate at the graduate level in partnership with the Center for Healthcare Ethics and SON.
  • Teach nursing ethics and related courses.
  • Promote cooperative and collaborative relationships with the Center for Healthcare Ethics and SON.
  • Directing dissertations for HCE students.
