The College proposes to appoint a Fixed Term Stipendiary Lecturer in Ancient Philosophy, a non-renewable post, tenable from 1 January 2013 until 30 June 2013, to teach Ancient Philosophy to undergraduates. The post is designed to cover a temporary teaching need, until a permanent Tutorial Fellow is appointed from Michaelmas Term 2013.  It is therefore not possible to extend the post beyond 30 June 2013. The Lecturer will be required to undertake tutorial or class teaching of undergraduates of the College (or by exchange with other Colleges) up to a maximum of six (weighted) hours per week averaged over the two eight-week teaching Terms during the appointment, and to set and mark College examinations.

The Lecturer will be expected to provide teaching (including revision classes for students who are preparing for examinations) for the following undergraduate courses as a minimum: Plato: Republic (115/130); Plato:Euthyphro and Meno (for Classics students); Aristotle: Nicomachean Ethics (116/132). The successful candidate will be able to teach these texts in Greek and in translation. In addition to these papers, the ability to teach other papers may be an advantage.

The Lecturer will be appointed at Point 1 or Point 2 of the Senior Tutors' Committee's Register of Approved Payments for Stipendiary Lecturers (currently £12,260-£12,626 per annum), i.e. £8,173-£8,417 for the period of the appointment, plus book and research allowances, and three lunches and three dinners per week at the Common Table.  A teaching room in College will be provided for the Lecturer's use.
