Job description |
Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, invites applications for the Besl Family Chair in Ethics/Religion and Society. This visiting faculty position is open to promising early-career scholars in the humanities and is renewable annually for up to 3 years. A Ph.D. is required by start of the position in the fall of 2021. The E/RS focus within Xavier’s core curriculum includes courses in philosophy, theology, and literature, as well as other courses that foster interdisciplinary engagement with socially significant religious and/or ethical issues. The E/RS Program also sponsors visiting speaker series and community roundtables. For more information, visit http://www.xavier.edu/ers/. The Besl Chair will teach 3 undergraduate courses per year in some area of the E/RS focus of the core and help to support the 2021-2024 E/RS speaker series, working with the incoming director of the program. Applicants should be familiar with interdisciplinary issues such as those discussed in E/RS courses, and should have a robust program of research. The successful candidate will join Xavier faculty in the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts serving a diverse population of students. Xavier’s urban location in Cincinnati allows faculty to work with community partners to develop engaged learning and internship opportunities. Xavier is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities as well as the Big East. U.S. News and World Report has ranked the University 20 years in a row among the top 10 Midwest colleges and universities. Candidates should submit a dossier (in a single PDF file if possible) that includes a letter of application, a CV, a graduate transcript, evidence of excellence in teaching, a statement on research, and one-paragraph descriptions of 2 possible E/RS courses. Applications should be submitted at Xavier University's website https://jobs.silkroad.com/Xavier/apply/jobs/2216 by March 22, 2021. In addition, 3 letters of recommendation should be sent to [email protected]. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. For inquiries, contact E/RS Director Richard Polt at [email protected]. Xavier is committed to a diverse and inclusive environment; we welcome a broad spectrum of candidates, and particularly invite applications from women, ethnic and racial minorities, and other individuals who are under-represented in the profession. Candidates who have worked with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students and who can contribute to our mission of inclusivity (https://www.xavier.edu/institutional-diversity-inclusion/documents/DiversityandInclusionStrategicPlanFinal.pdf) are encouraged to identify their experiences and interests. Xavier University is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without discrimination on the basis of race, skin color, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability. |
