Associate Professorship (or Professorship) of Philosophy Faculty of Philosophy, University of Oxford in Association with Merton College, Oxford Salary range: Combined University and College salary: £48,114 - £64,605 per annum. An additional allowance (currently of £2,804 per annum) would be made upon award of the title of Professor (without change to the duties of the post). The College provides substantial additional benefits including either a household allowance of £20,000 p.a. and access to a Joint Equity scheme; or single accommodation in College free of rent and a Residence Allowance of £1,506 p.a.; or rent-free house or flat accommodation and a household allowance of £3,012 p.a. (subject to availability). In addition, a research expenses allowance of up to £3,800 p.a.; a taxable entertainment allowance of £450 p.a.; private medical cover; and a tutorial allowance of £3,000 p.a. are provided. The household allowances and tutorial allowance are pensionable. Faculty of Philosophy, University of Oxford, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter 555, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG Merton College, Merton Street, Oxford OX1 4JD The Faculty of Philosophy are seeking to appoint an Associate Professor (or Professor) in Philosophy, in association with a Tutorial Fellowship at Merton College. The successful candidate will have an area of specialization in Political Philosophy, and an area of competence in Ethics. The ability to teach feminist philosophy (at undergraduate and/or graduate level), and/or the ability to teach epistemology and metaphysics tutorials to undergraduates, would be desirable, but are not essential criteria. This post is available from 1 September 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a permanent appointment (subject to initial probation). The successful candidate will be expected to engage in advanced research within Political Philosophy, and must be able to provide research-led teaching and supervision at all levels, undergraduate and graduate. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide small-group undergraduate teaching for Merton College, in the form of tutorials, on a range of subjects within Philosophy at both introductory and advanced levels. Candidates must demonstrate a research record in Philosophy of international standing appropriate to the stage of their career; and must have research interests in Political Philosophy, the ability to deliver excellent teaching, the ability to supervise graduate students, and a willingness to undertake administration and pastoral responsibilities on behalf of Merton College and of the University. Candidates should hold a completed doctorate, or a completed doctoral dissertation submitted for examination by the advertised closing date for this position, in Philosophy or a closely related field.
