Department of Philosophy invites applications for a non-tenure track lecturer position for an anticipated appointment of two years but with possibility of renewal, to begin August 16, 2021. The person appointed to this position is expected to contribute to the undergraduate teaching needs of the Department of Philosophy including mentoring undergraduate students. While the successful candidate should be prepared to teach four courses per semester including Introduction to Philosophy and Medical Ethics, the courses to be offered each semester will be determined in consultation with the chair of the Department of Philosophy. 

Minimum qualifications:

    Master’s degree in philosophy, or master’s degree in a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours of philosophical study
    Experience teaching philosophy as the instructor of record at the university level
    Experience teaching medical ethics
    Effective written communication skills

Preferred qualifications: While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following

    PhD in philosophy or a closely related field
    Demonstrated ability to incorporate, in teaching, contemporary developments in the field of medicine
    Successful experience in one or more of the following:
        teaching philosophy courses at the undergraduate level including introductory philosophy
        teaching medical ethics as instructor of record
        teaching material related to diversity and social justice
        teaching students from diverse backgrounds
         working collaboratively with colleagues in and beyond the department
    Effective interpersonal communication skills
    Effective classroom management skills
    Ability to successfully foster and maintain student engagement
    Commitment to educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession
