Xavier University invites applications for a non-tenure-track position of Visiting Faculty in the Department of Philosophy for the 2021-2022 academic year. There is a possibility that the position may be renewed annually for up to a total of three years. We are looking especially for candidates with a strong background in the history of philosophy, dedicated to teaching from primary sources. AOS and AOC are open. Position Responsibilities The position is full-time, with a 4 course per semester teaching load, responsible for teaching PHIL 100: Ethics as Introduction to Philosophy, or PHIL 200, the focus of which varies with the professor. However, all sections of PHIL100 should treat Plato’s Republic; all sections of PHIL200 should treat Descartes’ Discourse on Method. The successful candidate will join Xavier faculty in the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts serving a diverse population of students. Xavier’s location in Cincinnati allows faculty to work with community partners to develop engaged learning and internship opportunities. Xavier is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities as well as the Big East. For twenty years in a row, the U.S. News and World Report has ranked Xavier University among the top 10 Midwest colleges and universities. Application To apply, please submit a dossier that includes a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, along with any other evidence of teaching excellence. Candidates should also submit a sample syllabus for either our PHIL100 or PHIL 200 class. Submit all application materials on Xavier University's website.
