Job description |
The Department of Philosophy, School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow, to commence on 1st August 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a 3 year fixed term 80% time position, with appointment to be made at point 1 of the Teaching Fellow (Merged) salary scale (€35,509, pro-rata, 80%). The successful candidate will have a research specialization in Philosophy of Mind and teaching competence in Philosophy of Science. Other areas of teaching competence, particularly those that would expand the diversity of our module offerings, would be valued. Applicants will be expected to possess a PhD in Philosophy and a sound research profile, relative to career stage. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching, including the design and coordination of general modules for first and second-year students and specialised, research-led modules for honors students, as well as dissertation supervision at fourth year level. The successful applicant may also contribute to teaching and dissertation supervision for the MPhil in Philosophy. During the first year of employment, the applicant will deliver a module in History, Ethics, and Philosophy of Science for second year undergraduate life sciences students. The Department is seeking an individual with vision and enthusiasm, a genuine commitment to the vital roles of teaching and research, including flair for innovation in course design and teaching methods, and an established record of research and clear potential for future research accomplishment. The successful candidate will be an engaged member of the Philosophy community and will also be required to undertake administrative responsibilities as directed by the Head of Department.
