Job description

The School of Philosophy at University College Dublin seeks to appoint a temporary teaching fellow in social epistemology. The duration of the appointment is estimated to be 22 months, commencing September 1, 2021 or soon thereafter. The appointee will be expected to deliver lectures in ethics, theoretical and applied, and to contribute to the teaching of the School’s Certificate of Professional Development in Ethics Programme

Fixed Salary: €38,000 per annum

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties of the successful candidate will include but not necessarily be limited to the following:

  • Delivering lectures
  • Grading coursework
  • Participating in the scholarly activities and publications of the Research Project PEriTiA
  • Providing Research Assistance to the Principal Investigators of the Horizon 2020 project PEriTiA in UCD.
  • Supervising Masters students
  • Contribute to the research life of the School through active engagement with UCD Centre for Ethics in Public Life.
  • Contribute to the wider educational community through engagement with the general public
  • Undertake such other appropriate duties as directed by the Head of School in line with the contract of employment.
  • Mandatory:
  • PhD in Philosophy
  • Track record of high-quality teaching and research in social epistemology and/or in ethics.
  • Research interest in the topics of trust, expertise, the question of value in science
  • Enthusiasm for and familiarity with collaborative work in a large multidisciplinary European Project


Desirable:

  • Teaching competence in applied ethics
  • Experience or enthusiasm for engaging with outside stakeholders and the general public
  • Enthusiasm and ability to deliver professional training programmes in philosophical topics

The position is suitable for those who do not require a work permit to work in Ireland, including British and EU citizens.
