Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Moravian University invites applications for a tenure track position in philosophy to begin in the fall of 2022. The required area of specialization (AOS) is in the philosophy of science. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to a pluralist conception of philosophy of science, engagement with the social impacts and politics of science, and an awareness of diverse scientific traditions. The areas of competency (AOC) include the history of philosophy (Western, Indigenous, and/or non-Western) and ethics. Candidates should demonstrate a strong teaching record and a commitment to undergraduate student research and student co-curricular activities. The department seeks a candidate who will contribute to the intellectual life of the department and the university community at large. Moravian highly values the diversity of candidates from underrepresented populations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 3:3 teaching load, with releases as appropriate for administrative work
  • Advising students
  • Occasionally teach in the First-Year Writing Seminar Program (FYWS)
  • Sustain an active program of scholarly research in the area(s) of your expertise
  • Produce peer-reviewed publications
  • Participate in professional organizations and societies
  • Complement existing faculty expertise in philosophy of science and intersecting areas
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary research and teaching collaborations between the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Natural and Health Sciences
  • Teach introduction 100-level courses in philosophy
  • Mentor undergraduate student research
  • Participate and direct student Honor Theses
  • Participate and direct Student Opportunities for Academic Research (SOAR) Projects;
  • Contribute to the University's commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in relevant field with evidence of completion by July 2022
  • AOS: Philosophy of Science.
  • AOC: History of Philosophy and Ethics
  • Demonstrable potential for excellence in research and scholarship
  • Demonstrable potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and advising
