THE ROLE

The Department of Philosophy, Macquarie University is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Associate Professor Mark Alfano on an interdisciplinary epistemology project that addresses both the structure of epistemic networks and the dispositions of the agents in them. The main objectives of this project are to identify the dispositions needed to cope with the imperfect networks in which we live, and to hypothesize ways to improve the given prevalent epistemic dispositions in contemporary human populations. The research will involve philosophical reflection, analysis of real and simulated network structures, and semantic analysis of (among other things) misinformation and propaganda. The outcome will be multiple interdisciplinary research articles to be published in peer-reviewed journals.
