Job description

The Center for Bioethics at the Indiana University School of Medicine offers a two-year fellowship.

 Since its founding in 2001, the Indiana University Center for Bioethics (IUCB), Indianapolis, Indiana, has worked to advance research, teaching, and the public understanding of bioethics.  Our faculty investigators carry out interdisciplinary, grant-funded research in bioethics and related areas, including patient decision-making, genetics, precision health, health information, and research ethics. We are also home to the Bioethics and Subject Advocacy Program (BSAP) of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute (I-CTSI).

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct qualitative and/ or quantitative research involving ethical issues raised by precision medicine and/ or electronic health information (clinical or research) (40% effort).  We are currently carrying out or developing projects related to ethics and implementation of learning healthcare systems, genetic testing for rare diseases, biobank consent and governance, and return of genetic results (esp. pharmacogenomics) to patients and research participants.
  • Participate in other research projects and service activities at the IU Center for Bioethics, including as part of the BSAP program of the Indiana CTSI and the Indiana University Precision Health Initiative (40% effort).
  • Contribute to the academic life of the IU Center for Bioethics, including project planning, informal and occasional undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and the administration of related work at the Center (20%)

Position Qualifications:

  • Recent PhD in bioethics, philosophy, health policy, public health or a related field, or MD with a strong background and interest in bioethics.
  • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative social research methods.
  • Accomplished academic research and writing skills.

Salary Range: $47,484 - $58,560 based on experience and number of years post-PhD.
