Job description |
The Saxo Institute at the University of Copenhagen is pleased to announce a call for applications for two 2-year postdoctoral positions in medieval philosophy. The positions are for a fixed term from January 1, 2022 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until December 31, 2023. The postdoctoral researchers will work as members of the research project Exploring Twelfth-Century Philosophy: Alberic of Paris and his School, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The project investigates the philosophical writings stemming from the milieu around the logician Alberic of Paris, who is still a relatively unknown figure in the history of philosophy, but according to contemporary sources was the most formidable rival of one of the greatest and most famous of all medieval philosophers, Peter Abelard. The project aims to identify, analyze and synthesize the core philosophical positions of Alberic and his school and to assess the role of this school of thought in the wider context of twelfth-century philosophy. JOB DESCRIPTION The other of the two successful candidates will work on the medieval Latin source material and focus especially on select twelfth-century commentaries on Aristotle's De interpretatione with the aim of establishing the distinctive views of Alberic and his followers as regards some of the main philosophical themes arising from this text (e.g. the theory of meaning). The candidates are expected to conduct research at a high international level and to publish the results of their research in high-ranking international journals and/or book series. The candidates are also expected to work closely together with the other members of the research team and to partake in organizing a number of research activities involving the project's substantial network of international scholars (e.g. workshops and conferences; research stays and trips to libraries; visits from visiting scholars; editing of a volume of conference proceedings). QUALIFICATIONS SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS The Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) have further agreed on a protocol that makes it possible for international researchers employed by the University to achieve a pension exemption, whereby the pension contribution will be paid out as salary. For more information about the different pension schemes, please see http://ism.ku.dk/onarrival/pension/ A special tax scheme is offered to researchers recruited abroad, http://ism.ku.dk/onarrival.
