Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and SciencesFacultyLos Angeles, California The School of Philosophy in the Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences at the University of Southern California seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Philosophy beginning August 2022. We have a strong preference for: Philosophy of science (broadly construed, including philosophy of particular sciences: physics, cognitive science, biology, neuroscience, social sciences, etc.) or social philosophy (broadly construed, including philosophy of particular social groups such as gender, race, and ability, social philosophy of language, social ontology and feminist philosophy.) However we will also consider applications in philosophy of mind, history of philosophy (including non-Western traditions), philosophy of law, and applied ethics. The position will be filled only at the highest level of promise or distinction. A Ph.D. or equivalent is required by time of appointment. Demonstrated excellence in research required, and successful classroom experience valued. Duties include active research, graduate supervision, normal committee service, and classroom teaching at all levels. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester. Applications require a covering letter, a CV, a writing sample, and at least three letters of reference. Recent Ph.D.’s should also include a transcript of graduate coursework. We do not plan to interview at the APA. The review of files will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
