POSITION DESCRIPTION UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, IRVINE, The Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science at UC Irvine invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. AOS/AOC in alphabetical order: Formal Epistemology; Game and Decision Theory; History of Logic, or of Mathematics, or of Philosophy of Science; Logic, including Philosophical Logic and Computability Theory; Philosophy of Science, including Philosophy of Biology, Philosophy of Cognitive Science, Philosophy of Economics and the Social Sciences, Feminist Philosophy of Science, General Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Language and Linguistics, Philosophy of Mathematics, Philosophy of Physics, Science and Race. The department also prefers scholars who can make a strong contribution to teaching courses in the MA program in Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics and especially encourages applicants from underrepresented groups in philosophy to apply. Candidates who wish to apply for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor are required to submit a cover letter, CV, sample of research (writing sample), teaching statement, an inclusive excellence/diversity statement, authorization to release information form, and at least three (up to five) letters of recommendation; and may submit a research statement. If the candidate does not include the signed authorization to release information with the application materials, the application will be considered incomplete. As with any incomplete application, the application will not receive further consideration. Although all applicants for faculty recruitments must complete the entire application, only finalists (i.e., those to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer) considered for Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full) positions will be subject to institutional reference checks.
